Healthy Diet for Children

Over the past twenty years, one of the negative trends in this country is the rise in child obesity.

It seems that far more children are overweight and even obese.  If you have a child who is overweight, you will want to create healthy diet for children.

Here are some tips on creating a healthy diet for children.

One of the most important lessons you can teach your children is teaching them to learn how to eat properly.  With an epidemic of obesity in this country, a little education will go a long way.

Also important to note is that you should start early.  Keep in mind, you do not have to scare them to be anorexic, but it is important for children to understand which foods are healthy and which foods can be bad for them if not eaten in moderation.

If you go out to a restaurant to eat, you probably watch your calories very closely.  Always order salad dressings or sauces on the side, as this way you have control over how much you add to your meal.

When you order grilled fish or vegetables, you should ask that the food be grilled without butter or oil, or prepared with very little or either.

Anytime you order pasta dishes, be on the lookout for tomato based sauces instead of the cream based sauces.  Tomato based sauces are much lower in fat and calories, and tomato sauce can even be counted as a vegetable!

You can also visit many web sites that have different plans for putting your child on a diet.  Most diets for children do not necessarily starve the child, like many adult diets but emphasize a certain caloric intake as well as physical activities.

You should always try to drink water, diet soda, or tea instead of soda or beverages that contain alcohol. When you choose a soup, remember that cream based soups are higher in fat and calories than other soups.

A soup can be a great appetizer, as most are low in calories and you fill you up pretty fast.

Many people think that lots of children have become obese, because they are less likely to go outside and play.  Instead they sit home all day and watch TV or play video games while eating snacks and drinking soda.
